SERENADE SOIL® Fungicide Named Best New Biopesticide, Research and Development Collaboration between AgraQuest and Monsanto Also Recognized

DAVIS, Calif. (November 2, 2011) – AgraQuest Inc. announced today that its soil fungicide, SERENADE SOIL® has been awarded the Best New Biopesticide at the 2011 Agrow Awards. The Agrow Awards, the preeminent technology prizes awarded in global crop protection, are presented by Agrow, a leading information provider for the industry. The winners were announced November 1, 2011 in London.

Introduced into the market early last year, SERENADE SOIL is a unique soil fungicide combining control on important yield-robbing diseases with root colonization and plant growth effects, giving growers a new unique approach to both protect and enhance yields. In its first year of sales, SERENADE SOIL was widely adopted by U.S. potato producers for control of Phytophthora infestans and common scab.

“We’re very pleased that Agrow has recognized the SERENADE SOIL technology,” said Ashish Malik, AgraQuest’s Senior VP of Marketing, who accepted the award in London. “Growers face the challenge of producing sufficient food to supply our increasing population and want to do that in ways that balance protection of the environment with farm profitability. SERENADE SOIL fungicide’s proven disease control and yield results give growers a tool to do that.”

SERENADE SOIL is also registered in the USA for control of yield robbing soil diseases in fruiting vegetables like tomatoes and peppers, as well as legumes, peanuts and cucurbits. Regulatory approvals are pending in Mexico, and the product will be registered in key agricultural markets around the world.

AgraQuest was additionally honored alongside Monsanto for their research and development partnership, which was nominated to the short-list of Best Industry Collaborations. The alliance focuses on the discovery of microbial pesticides for use as seed treatments.

“Conventional seed treatments are highly effective against early season diseases and pests. The next generation of biologically based seed treatments will provide persistent control of mid- and late season pests and pathogens in a sustainable fashion,” said Dr. Jonathan Margolis, AgraQuest’s Chief Technology Officer.

In 2010, AgraQuest won the Agrow award for Best Manager with Strategic Vision for its CEO Marcus Meadows-Smith.

Novel Formulation Approved for Use in High Value Fruit and Vegetables in the U.S.

DAVIS, Calif. (October 17, 2011) – AgraQuest announced today it has recently received approval of REQUIEM® EC Miticide/Insecticide from the US EPA and from key states including California. REQUIEM EC is a new product label allowing use on a wide variety of fruit and vegetable crops, including tomatoes, cucurbits and vines. REQUIEM EC provides effective reduction of populations of mites, thrips, aphids and whiteflies through multiple modes of action. REQUIEM EC is approved for the same crop uses as REQUIEM 25EC, its predecessor. “REQUIEM EC maximizes performance through multiple modes of action,” said Sarah Reiter, Director of Marketing for AgraQuest. “First, contact control reduces pest populations. Then the anti-feeding properties in REQUIEM EC have been proven to reduce crop damage and virus transmission that can occur when insects attack the crop.” REQUIEM EC offers the convenience of flexible timing and exemption from maximum residue levels (MRL) tolerances, making it an ideal insect control tool for high value fruits and vegetables, especially those headed for export markets. REQUIEM EC insecticide’s unique, multiple modes of action also make it an excellent partner in insect resistance management programs. “With the transition to REQUIEM EC in the U.S., all global markets will leverage the same technology platform,” said Reiter. REQUIEM EC was recently approved for use in Mexico, and was submitted in 2011 for inclusion in the European Union’s Annex One.”

SONATA will be launched for the 2011 crop season in Brazil and sold through its distribution partner Iharabras. AgraQuest and Iharabras will collaborate to add more crops to the label over the next several seasons.

SONATA fungicide is an effective treatment for control of common fungal diseases such as alternaria and botrytis. The active ingredient in SONATA, the patented strain Bacillus pumilus QST 2808, has been used in other global agriculture markets since 2004.

“We are excited by the potential of SONATA and the efficacy that it has shown against target diseases in Brazil,” said Julio Borges, President of Iharabras. “SONATA is the first product to be distributed through our newly created Eco-Division and we expect that growers will be pleased with the results they get using this fungicide.”

In addition to being labeled for apples, onions and strawberries, SONATA fungicide has also been approved for agricultural research on soybeans. This will allow approved soybean research institutions the ability to readily conduct trials with SONATA.

With the entry into this important agriculture market, AgraQuest has also increased its sales team, announcing the hiring of Manuel Dieguez as Business Manager for southern Latin America. Dieguez will work together with the rest of the AgraQuest’s Latin American team, which includes dedicated technical and regulatory personnel, to grow the demand and use for its proprietary biopesticides across the region.

With the addition of Dieguez, AgraQuest has committed to supporting growers and its partners in Brazil, Argentina and other key South American markets. Dieguez, who will be based in Buenos Aries, Argentina, has more than 23 years working in the crop protection industry in technical, marketing and sales management roles.

“AgraQuest is committed to providing Brazilian growers with the most effective and environmentally sustainable disease control products through our partnership with Iharabras,” said Cesar Lamonega, VP Sales, Americas and Asia. “Additionally, we are pleased to have someone with Manuel’s background and knowledge to help grow the business in Brazil and other key markets in South America.”
